Embajada de México en Países Bajos

The Government of Mexico has reiterated its commitment to the reinforcement of international human rights protection systems. This commitment is encompassed by:

1. - Supporting a universal system of human rights, seeking the country’s full adherence to all the international instruments that integrate it;

2. - Reinforcing the mechanisms to follow-up on recommendations by the international bodies (periodic reports drafted by experts committees)

3. - Maintaining an open-minded attitude about the improvement of the global human rights system.

As a result of the application of these axes, the Mexican government has launched several actions to promote consciousness about, respect for, and protection of fundamental rights within Mexico. Special emphasis has been placed on reforming the domestic justice system through the legislative process. The goal is to facilitate the use and application of all existing international instruments in the field of human rights.

Relevant actions include:

- The establishment of the Governmental Policy Commission on Human Rights Matters.

- The adoption of the Federal Law to Prevent and Eliminate Discrimination, the objective of which is to promote equal opportunities and treatment.

- The establishment of a Special Prosecutors Office for Past Social and Political Movements.

- The enactment of the Transparency and Access Law to Public Governmental Information. This law guarantees the right to information and establishes a Federal Institute of Access to the Public Information, as the organism in charge of promoting, overseeing and sanctioning its fulfillment.
