Embajada de México en Países Bajos

Mexico’s foreign policy encompasses a longstanding tradition of protecting and promoting human rights. This tradition dates back to the 1920s, when Mexico distinguished itself through its efforts around the adoption of international legal instruments directed towards protecting the dignity and rights of the human being. The involvement of Mexican diplomats in the International Convention for the Suppression of Women and Children Trade, adopted in Geneva on September 30th, 1921, is one highlight from this period.

Mexico presently continues to work towards the promotion and enforcement of the gender, political, economic, social, cultural and humanitarian rights. As of 1998, Mexico was already was a signatory of 42 of the 62 existing International Conventions on Human Rights. This fact has supported the proactive behavior of the Mexican Foreign Service in the protection of human rights. Nowadays, Mexico’s foreign policy on Human rights is characterized by a strong commitment to the protection of equality, integrity and dignity of people, as well as to fighting discrimination.
